ARTIST RESEARCH - Similar acts

Think of other bands that are similar.

In a way in terms of the voice and constant themes of love, isolation, Maroon 5, but they are not androgynous, remain very heteronormative in their representations.

From the wiki, here are some influences:

Multiple artists have cited the band as an influence. Kele Okereke, lead singer of London band Bloc Party, said that he started making music because of Suede's Dog Man Star, and called it "the first record I fell in love with".[120] Kate Jackson, lead singer of English indie rock band The Long Blondes has said in interviews of her love for Suede. In 2007, she admitted that Suede got her into music, saying: "Suede's debut album was unlike anything I'd heard before. It was the opposite of grunge, which I hated, and my escape from Bury St Edmunds.[121] Christopher Owens of the Californian indie pop group Girls named Suede as one of his major influences, and his vocal style has been compared to that of Anderson.[122] My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way cited Suede as a prominent inspiration for his 2014 solo album, Hesitant Alien.[123] The band have also served as an influence on acts such as Sons and Daughters,[124] Dum Dum Girls,[125] and Drowners,[126] who took their name from the similarly titled Suede song.[122] Additionally, Suede's songs have been covered by artists including Morrissey,[127] Manic Street Preachers,[128] The Libertines,[129] Kim Wilde,[130] Apoptygma Berzerk[131] and Basement.[132]
Looking at indie rock bands, The Long Blondes and Girls seem to be a possible link.

From The Guardian news feed on Suede, an article about an up and coming indie band, who name their influences as Arctic Monkeys and Adele:

...the low-slung funk of Smashed Pianos, and singer Tom Ogden’s vocals, are pitched engagingly between the rough-edged croon of Alex Turner and the florid yelp of Brett Anderson.

BRITISH OUTSIDER BANDS:
  • Kasabian
  • Sly Antics
  • Honeyblood maybe slightly less outsider

POSSIBLE OLDER INFLUENCES:
  • The Stooges (Black look, maybe just pure coincidental intertextuality)
